Itinerary

We’ll pick you up from your hotel, and you can grab a coffee or breakfast on the way (not included, but if you need to stop we can stop). Alternatively, you can choose to meet your guide directly at Ricon De La Vieja National Park.

Ricon De La Vieja Hike

You will follow your guide for a 2 hour hike to the National Park of Ricon De La Vieja the largest and most active volcano in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Here, you’ll encounter fumaroles, geysers, bubbling mud pots, and more, making it a unique experience unmatched by any other volcano in Costa Rica.

Guided by our bilingual naturalist, enjoy a 3.5-km circular trail through the tropical dry forest, taking in remarkable views of the volcano, witnessing volcanic activity, and spotting diverse wildlife. Keep an eye out for over 300 bird species, along with other wildlife such as deer, armadillos, coatis, iguanas, and a variety of monkeys, including white-faced, howler, and spider monkeys.

La Oropendola Waterfall

After the hike, cool off with a swim at the La Oropendola Waterfall. A short walk from the park entrance takes you along a scenic path to the river, where you’ll wade a brief distance to reach the waterfall. Standing at an impressive 25 meters, La Oropendola cascades into a vibrant turquoise pool in the lush canyon of the Blanco River, creating a breathtaking tropical oasis.

buffet Costa Rican Lunch

Delicious, fresh meals are lovingly prepared by our Costa Rican chefs following time-honored traditional recipes from our region of Guanacaste and Costa Rica.

Hot Springs & Volcanic Mud Bath

Rich in minerals, the Rio Negro Hot Springs offer rejuvenating and therapeutic benefits that have been cherished worldwide for centuries. Set in a stunning natural setting, the volcanic hot springs are naturally heated by Rincon de la Vieja Volcano.

Surrounded by lush dry tropical forest, the Rio Negro Hot Springs provide a peaceful escape where the clear river flows beside 10 mineral-rich thermal pools along the riverbank. You can explore both sides of the river and the pools via two scenic suspension bridges.

For an added touch of relaxation, try the hot volcanic mud treatment, which acts like a natural spa body mask. Once the mud dries, rinse off in the cool river waters before soaking again in the thermal pools.

I had an awesome time learning how to surf with David and Sara!

They were both very encouraging, they paid attention to the small details to make my surfing better, and they’re both friendly (which made me feel more comfortable and confident). So, for my first surf class ever, it was worth it and I’d do it again.
